KEF Upgrades Muon Speaker

  • PDF

KEF upgrades its impressive 2m tall flagship loudspeaker, the Muon, promising to take "form and function to far greater performance-levels than thought possible at the time of its introduction."

KEF MuonThe upgrade features the latest version of the Uni-Q "point source" driver array, a combination of 5-inch MF lithium/magnesium aluminium hybrid cone and 1-inch HF aluminium dome featuring the company's "Tangerine Waveguide."

The new version uses rear air-venting to direct sound down an absorbent venting tube as it radiates from the rear of the dome. According to KEF this reduces distortion and pressures waves building behind the done for "incredibly smooth" treble.

The tweeter dome also sees improvement, with a two-part design made of an acoustically optimised upper dome and a stiffer lower dome.

A specially designed aluminium trim ring sits between the cabinet and Uni-Q driver to ensure the smooth travel of sound waves along the baffle.

"Since Muon's original launch there have been huge leaps forward in material advancements and acoustic fundamentals," the company says. "KEF engineers have found new ways of extracting even more detail and refinement from key KEF technologies in their continuing quest to discover innovative and superior ways of reproducing music with realism and vitality."

The upgraded Muon ships now, and KEF also offers to send engineers to current Muon owners for on-site upgrades.
