System Integration for the Connected Home

Control4 Gets Google Home Integration

Control4 Google HomControl4 users get another voice control option-- following the recent announcement of Alexa integration Google Home and Pixel products are next, via the power of IFTTT and a Chowmain-developed driver.

Such integration is impressive, considering a Google voice-recognition API will only be available come December 2016. However it is possible through IFTTT and its Google Assistant "channel." The Chowmain IFTTT driver for Control4 allows Google Home and Pixel devices to pass through commands and variables to Control4 home automation systems, meaning users can control connected devices through voice commands.

Voice commands can be simple or more advanced--- one can either say "Ok Google, turn the house off" to trigger an "all off" scene or say "OK Google, set the living room thermostat to 30 degrees" for a more specific "Living Room Thermostat" command.

On launch Google Assistant supports a few devices, namely Nest, SmartThings, Philips Hue and IFTTT. However, European customers have to keep in mind the Home device will only be available on other side of the globe sometime on 2017.
