The DLP Labs-Certified Aurora Fiber HDMI Cable

  • PDF

Tributaries Cable announces the Aurora-- an hybrid active optical cable (AOC) featuring DLP Labs certification, able to carry bandwidths reaching 18Gbps for up to 30m.

Aurora cableSuch data rates allow it to carry advanced video signals, such as UHD 4K at 60Hz with 10-bit colour and HDR.

The hybrid cable uses a glass design to transport video/audio/clock and control signals, while a copper portion carries the Digital Display Channel (DDC) responsible for 2-way communication of EDID and HDCP signals. The connector head shells houses cable components, while power comes via USB connection delivered through either separate 5V power supply or USB port.

Also included in the cable is an optical microchip encased in an HDMI source connector. The microchip carries 4 vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs), together with semiconductor-based laser diodes emitting an optical beam perpendicular to the fibre surface. Each TMDS modulated beam is reflected off a mirror and sent into a multi-mode fibre optic glass material producing 4 TMDS optic channels. OM3 (10Gig) cladding reflects the channel.

The Aurora cables are available in lengths ranging from 10 to 30m.
