The Nest platform gets a 5.9 update-- one providing Cam security camera users with a number of new features, including the streaming of feeds on 4th generation Apple TV and Android TV units.
In the near future Android TV and Apple TV device owners can download a Nest app on the tvOS App Store allowing one to easily switch from Netflix binges to the checking who is at the door. The app also includes toggles between live feeds and video history scrubbing for "reality TV you actually care about."
Another Cam feature in the Nest update is "instaclip"-- a means to capture and share short clips based on potentially interesting moments captured by the security camera. Generating an instaclip involves tapping the "clip" icon before customising the length of the clip in question. Creating instaclips requires a Nest Aware subscription, and clips can be uploaded to either online archive or stored on iDevice.
The update also offers a refined UI, the addition of snapshots to activity alerts and a button to easily switch between fullscreen and portrait modes while viewing video feeds and history without need to rotate the iPhone. However the Cam, like the rest of the Nest product portfolio, still lacks HomeKit compatibility.
