HDMI 2.1 Specification Gets Release

  • PDF

The HDMI Forum announces version 2.1 of the HDMI specification-- an update promising support for a range of higher video resolutions and refresh rates, including 8K60 and 4K120.

HDMI Version 2.1 handles resolutions up to 10K, together with dynamic HDR formats. Bandwidth capability is increased to 48Gbps through a Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable able to handle uncompressed 8K video with HDR with exceptionally low EMI (electro-magnetic interference) and backwards compatibility with existing HDMI devices.

Other features include eARC to simplify connectivity and ensure full compatibility between audio devices and upcoming HDMI 2.1 products, as well as motion and transmitions for gaming, movies and videos (namely Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) to eliminate lag, stutter and frame tearing, Quick Media Switching (QMS) for movies and video and Quick Frame Transport (QFT) to reduce latency). Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) allows the automatic setting of ideal latency for smooth, lag-free and uninterrupted viewing and interactivity.

The HDMI 2.1 specification is available now for all HDMI 2.0 adopters.
