Lazier customers wanting an automated means to control Philips Hue lighting products get a solution in the shape of a motion sensor, a first official solution of the sort from the company.

Philip Hue motion sensorThe Hue motion sensor is a small white device powered by x2 AA batteries. Users can mount it or place it wherever required, and it handles the simple task of motion detection, switching lighting on/off when people are or are not in a room. Setup should be simple enough through companion Hue app, letting one pick the specific lights to switch on when triggered by the sensor and how long lights should remain on when the room is empty.

Users can pair up to 12 motion sensors with a single Hue bridge.

Control KNX Lighting With RTI's iKNiX Gateway

iKNiX gatewayThe iKNiX RTI Gateway promises "effortless" KNX integration with RTI, being designed to make the integration of RTI with KNX HVAC, lighting and blind control simpler.

Supposedly the first controller configured using only ETS, the iKNiX ProServ supports 18 zones, 16 object max (1000 datapoints) and comes with an included RTI driver. The iKNix Port Gateway acts as an interface for connecting to KNX/EIB on telegram (KNX/net/IP tunneling) and data point (KNX application layer) level. Installers can connect to KNX/EIB-bus everywhere over LAN, and bus connection over the internet is also possible.

Philips Lighting promises better sleep for customers with "white ambiance" versions of the Hue app connected lightbulbs the company describes as "inspired by the sun."

Twist announces an LED/speaker combo in the shape of the CR90 LED light with a built-in speaker-- one the company says does not require a wifi hub or any kind of wireless controller.

TwistInstead customers simply screw the LEDs into a CR90-compatible can light to automatically get an Apple Airplay-capable wireless speaker.

The bulbs automatically change colour temperature from 5000 to 2700 Kelvin throughout the day, and offer the equivalent brightness of a 60W bulb (800 lumens) while using less than 10W. Connectivity comes through wifi and Bluetooth, while the 18mm built-in speaker is specced at 250Hz-20kHz @ 12dB and features Neodymium magnets in an aluminium cone.
