How to Click a TouchScreen

  • PDF

RingbowTouch-screen apps have limited ways to control content, so access to menu commands or secondary functions requires trips to full menus, which slows down the user.

Now there’s Ringbow, a finger-mounted 5-way controller (four compass directions plus pushing down) that speeds up your passage through accessory menus .

OK, software vendors who make graphical apps (such as Adobe) could make their products easier and faster to use for professionals by adding Ringbow shortcuts, but even without software publisher acknowledging interest, a ring-mounted controller adds a lot of control options that one otherwise doesn't have in a touch-screen device.

Ringbow should get traction in consumer apps and games and in touch-screen devices, but it could also have useful application in niche professional markets like medical, military, and industrial.

Cameo Keypads Get Additions

  • PDF

CameoCrestron upgrades its Cameo keypad range-- this time focusing on matching the keypads' look with current interior design trends.

The upgraded range offers what Crestron describes as combining "contemporary stylings with highly customisable system design options".

New split-button designs allow for an additional x2 buttons per keypad, as well as increasing customisation options-- where the extra buttons are ideal for volume control or light dimming while freeing up space for extra lighting zone/audio source presets.

Meanwhile auto-dimmable backlit text and LED feedback provide button function indication.

The flush mounted keypads have a sleek profile and don't need a gang box. Built-in Verisport control ports allow for local device connection, contact closures aand other integration solutions.

HAI Omni-Bus

Designed for the 220-240v/50Hz international marketplace, the DIN Rail style HAI Omni-Bus Lighting Control Network provides hardwired and wireless solutions.

The products are broken down into four segments: Core Products (Required), Load Control Modules, Switch Interfaces, and Accessories. Products are available for control of lighting loads, fans, motors, pumps, and more.

27 new SKUs are available, including two styles of Switch Interfaces (white and brushed stainless) with wired and wireless options available. HAI Switch Interfaces may be used to control anything running under a HAI system, including shades, audio, and more. Using HAI's 6-Channel Universal Switch Interface Module, 3rd-party switches can control the Omni-Bus network and anything under the purview of an HAI system.

The HAI Omni-Bus lighting system fully integrates with HAI automation controllers, providing control of Omni-Bus devices using standard HAI interfaces and software applications, including Snap-Link Mobile for iPhone and Android.

HAI says the Omni-Bus lighting products are easy to install: power modules feed power to Omni-Bus devices on the network. Switches, Load Control and other DIN rail modules connect to the Omni-Bus network using standard Cat-5 wiring. Each hardwired switch connects to the Omni-Bus network using Cat5. Omni-Bus communicates with Omni or Lumina home control systems using the Interface Translator DIN Rail Module ( the "Gateway of the Omni-Bus system). Programming is accomplished with a software tool using the USB Programming Interface Unit.

AdderLink X-DVI PRO with Transparent USB and DVI

  • PDF

X-DVI PRO

The AdderLink X-DVI PRO features transparent USB and full bandwidth DVI over a single cable. X-DVI PRO is the second generation DVI extender delivering greater distance, improved USB and faster setup.

Adder's PRO range is a specific set of devices designed for use in professional digital environments. Industries such as medical imaging, broadcasting, digital signage, graphic design, drafting and animation need to be confident that what is shown on screen is exactly what the workstation intends. The AdderLink X-DVI PRO will support the extension of full speed transparent USB together with no compromise DVI over distances up to 200ft.

The X-DVI achieves full frequency clock rate for single link DVI connections which means you can extend any resolution within the single link DVI range. As an example, resolutions of 1920 x 1200 at 60Hz can be achieved without the need to reduce data, frequency or colour depth in any way. Delivering full speed USB as a transparent data connection means the X-DVI PRO also supports isochronous devices such as web cams or USB headsets. Setup is now much faster with the inclusion of automatic cable equalisation which determines the cable characteristic and adjusts the signal to deliver perfect results each time.

A plug and play solution, the AdderLink X-DVI PRO feeds extended profile DDC EDID information from the screen. X-DVI PRO can also be interface powered at the computer, avoiding the need for additional power sockets and reducing cable clutter. For video only applications, an optional power supply can also be purchased.

Suitable for PC, Mac and Sun computers.

OTT Winning Over IPTV

  • PDF

IPTVInforma Telecoms & Media predicts WW OTT-to-the-TV viewers will outnumber IPTV viewers by 2013, thanks to the popularity of services such as BBC iPlayer and Netflix.

By 2015 global OTT viewer numbers will reach 380m-- viewing online video via either connected devices (TVs and games consoles) or STBs from the likes of Google and Apple. On the other hand the analyst predicts managed IPTV service user numbers for 2015 will reach 163m.

The numbers will differ between territories-- in the UK OTT viewers already outnumber IPTV's, and Informa says only 3.6m Brits will watch IPTV (compared to the 27m watching online video on their TVs).

What does this mean for operators? Informa says many users will watch short-form and catch-up TV services on their connected devices-- features operators should be adding to their IPTV packages. If anything, operators should even be seriously considering Pay TV service delivery via connected devices.
