LG Plans Folding TV?

LG might be pushing flexible OLEDs with the rollable Signature TV R, but a recent patent filing suggests the Korean company plans another take on the technology in the shape of a foldable OLED TV.

First spotted by Dutch news site LetsGoDigital, the patent describes an ultrawide display able to fold up into a compact space when not in use. As such it is similar in concep to the aforementioned Signature TV R (which rolls up when not in use), only using the foldable technology previously seen in smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X.

LG OLED TVs Get G-Sync Update

PC gamers wanting to take advantage of the biggest screen in the house will be able to do so in even better form on a number of 2019 LG OLED TVs, as the company announces a firmware update bringing Nvidia G-Sync support.

LG Nvidia GsyncSets receiving the update include the E9 (65- and 55-inch), C- (77-, 65- and 55-inch) and B9 (65- and 55-inch). G-Sync support promises "the smoothest, most immersive gaming experience," with images free of flickering, tearing or stuttering. However, to take advantage of graphics optimised for TVs up to 77-inch in size customers need to own PCs powered by either GeForce RTX 20 or GTX 16-series GPUs.

2021 Launch for Samsung QD-OLED TVs

Samsung QD-OLED Samsung Display plans to transition to Quantum Dot OLED (aka QD-OLED), the display technology rival to the likes of high-end LED LCD and WRGB OLED, by 2021 following a $10.9 billion investment in a first manufacturing line.

Located in Asan City, South Chungcheong Province, S. Korea, the Q1 line will have a production capacity of 30000 sheets once it starts operations in 2021. It will manufacture display panels measuring 65-inch or larger. According to The Investor, Samsung plans to replace current 8th generation LCD lines with QD-OLED lines by 2025 as part of a transition scheme from LCDs to QD-OLEDs for large-size devices.
