TCL 2019 TVs Feature Quantum Dots

TCL details the upcoming 2019 TV range with a focus on bigger screens and high-end features such as QLED quantum dot panels and mini-LED local dimming zones for enhanced 4K performance.

On the top of the 2019 TCL range is the QLED 8-Series. It consists of two models, the 65-inch 65Q825 and 75-inch 75Q825, both featuring Quantum Contrast technology the company says offers a "significant jump" in brightness, contrast and viewing angles using mini-LEDs to create local dimming zones. The TVs handle 100% of DCI-P3 colour volume coverage, and customers can use the AiPQ Engine to optimse colour, contrast and clarity. Also included is HDR support via HDR10 and Dolby Vision.

Honor Reveals Honor Vision Smart TV

Huawei-owned Honor takes on TVs with the Honor Vision-- a smart TV powered by the company's Android alternative, HarmonyOS, and packing smartphone-level hardware inside a slim 55-inch 4K IPS panel.

HarmonyOS is obviously the Huawei attempt to reduce dependence on Android (after all, Google did suspend its Android license back in May), although the company insists it has been working on the software for over 2 years. It is technically designed to run on anything from tablets and PCs to wearables, but Huawei says the initial focus is on "smart screens" such as the Honor Vision.

Toshiba Presents L7, L5 4K TV Series

Toshiba launches a selection of four 4K TVs for 2019-- the UL7A, TL7A, U5LA and VL5A, all claiming to offer both "leading-edge" technologies and "added values" to a wider range of customers.

The higher-end options are the UL7A and TL7A, both available in 49- and 55-inch sizes and featuring an ELED (Edge Emitting LED) panel with support for Wide Colour Gamut (WCG), HDR10 and Dolby Vision HDR dynamic metadata. The UL7A adds a pair of enhanced 42W speakers, the result of a collaboration with Onkyo, but otherwise the two models are essentially identical.

Legrand extends the On-Q line of in-wall power products with the On-Q Flat Screen TV Pro Power and Cable Management Kits, in-wall kits complete with power input module with a drywall bracket and a 1.8m power cord.

Legrand On-QOffered in white to blend in with home decor, the module features a decorator inlet strap to provide the flexibility of ganging other connection. The power output module includes a 1.8m UL-rated power cable. A tamper-resistant outlet with a recessed design accommodates almost any type of power plug, including right angles and wall warts, while a bush strap opening allows the connection of AV cables.

C Seed Pushes the Limits With 301-inch Outdoor TV

C Seed claims to break outdoor TV records with the launch of a 301-inch (7.6m diagonally) TV with "exceptional" 4500 nits brightness, 4500:1 contrast ratio and 48-bit colour depth for "crystal clear" images.

Built out of carbon fibre and titanium, the monster TV promises to be "super stiff yet super light." As a successor to the previous 201-inch outdoor TV from C Seed, the 301-inch model consists of 7 interlocking LED panels. Such construction allows the TV to fold away into a hidden underground storage casing when not in use. To activate the TV customers press a button on the remote, and it unfolds out of the underground case.
