InFocus projectorGary Kayye's exclusive article "InFocus Is Getting Out of the Projector and Display Business (Updated)" tells the story in a headline.

No one expected this from InFocus, the pioneer manufacturer of computer projectors. As recently as ISE 2019, the company was still launching new LED and laser projector lines, plus new models for business and education—and even re-introducing their ScreenPlay projector line for the residential market.

Now not only is InFocus getting out of the projection and display business but according to Kayye they’ve already begun laying off a majority of their 128 global employees (68 waiting to see if they get “pink slips” are based in the Portland metro area in Oregon, USA).

BenQ HT5550The CinePrime HT5550 offers 3840 x 260 resolution projection with 8.3 million distinct pixels for each frame. It uses 4K-optimised optical system with 6 structured groups of all-glass elements for light transmission, and BenQ says the CinematicColour technology meets 100% of Rec. 706, backed by individual factory colour calibration reports ensuring Delta E=3 colour accuracy.

Parallax Re-Do for Da-Lite ALR Screens

Da-Lite is redefining the Parallax portfolio of Ambient Light Rejection (ALR) screen surface with the introduction of the Parallax 0.8, Parallax 2.3 and Parallax UST 0.45 to the Parallax Pure family.

Parallax Da-LiteParallax Pure is a line of True Optical ALR surfaces designed to reject high levels of ambient light from specific angles in a room. Light in the room is not reflected in the image, resulting in high contrast, luminous images in well-lit environments.

The 3 surfaces in the Parallax Pure family are designed for different applications. Parallax Pure 0.8 rejects up to 96% of ambient light, and features a superior viewing cone of 170-degrees. Viewers experience bright, speckle-free images regardless of location from the screen. The surface is recommended for laser projection, standard throw (1.5:1 or greater).

Optoma 4K Projectors Get Google Assistant, IFTTT

Optoma projectors get another smart assistant option-- as well as Amazon Alexa, the UHL55, UHD51A and UHD51ALVe 4K UHD home projectors are compatible with Google Assistant.

Optoma projectorsAlso getting such capability is the upcoming UHZ65UST ultra short throw laser 4K UHD projector.

Voice controls enabled by the assistant include power, source selection, sound output adjustment and inbuilt media player control. Google Assistant can also select various display modes and HDR picture modes, as well as PureMotion options. Enabling Google Assistant requires connecting the projector to a wifi network and registering it with an Optoma MyDevices Account.

SI Follows on Solo Screen With... Solo 2

The Solo, the motorised screen solution with the smallest cassette from Screen Innovations (SI) gets a sequel-- the Solo 2, an upgrade featuring an even smaller cassette and sizes reaching up to 160-inch diagonal.

The Solo was designed as a motorised screen solution customers can fit into the design of any room, as well as easily install in less than 5 minutes. The Solo 2 features a cassette 17% smaller than the original, and retains the rechargeable power option as well as the existing low-voltage option. A new addition is wired AC, along with a range of control connectivity options such as RTS and RS485.
