Instead, the installer simply needs to pull a Cat 5 cable for both power and communication. The use of a single network cable means no proprietary hardwiring is necessary, and the low-voltage motor (under 50V AC) does not require a licensed electrician or special certifications.

Philips Hue Box Syncs Lights With TV Shows

Signify announces a means to synchronise Philips Hue lighting with the TV-- the Play HDMI Sync Box, a means to "create immersive media experiences" by matching the colour and brightness of the lights with the action on the screen.

As the company puts it, the sync box sits between any HDMI device, be it a streaming device, satellite or cable STB, games console, Blu-ray or DVD player, or laptop, and the TV, in order to take movies, music, TV shows or games to "the next level" with surround lighting. Setup takes place using the Philips Hue Sync mobile app, and users can connect up to x10 Hue colour-capable lights to the system.

URC Integrates DMX Lighting Control

URC integrates the Total Control 2.0 system with automated lighting systems using the DMX protocol through a module allowing for two-way control of DMX-based lighting systems via URC Total Control user interface.

Originally developed for stage, DMX-based lighting systems are currently gaining foothold in both residential and commercial installations, particularly through automated lighting control and LED lighting systems. The URC Total Control Module, when used with either the DMX engine-RJ45 output or DMX Engine-XLR output supports up to 512 channels of DMX-based lighting and internally stores up to 63 scenes. Both DMX Engines are developed by Engineering Solutions, a company with 16 years of experience building bridge interfaces for DMX lighting system control.

Savant Adds Discrete Wired Motorised Shades

Savant announces the addition of battery-powered motor solutions as well as quiet, high-powered wired motors to its shading portfolio, both designed to fit in the same low-profile tube and bracketing system.

Savants shades motorIdeal for retrofit projects, the rechargeable battery-powered motors are installed in the same JGeiger bracketing system as the wired solutions. They are available with over 400 fabric choices with sheer, translucent and blackout options, allowing installers to sell shades according to design as opposed to technology.

Meanwhile the advanced shading motor options are high-powered but operate very quietly. The motors connect to the Savant low-voltage power enclosure able to easily manage power supplies for both low-voltage keypads and shades.

Vantage Controls Collaborates With WAC Lighting

Legrand-owned Vantage Controls looks to provide installers with an end-to-end human-centric lighting (HCL) system through a collaboration with LED luminaire maker WAC Lighting.

Vantage integrations Primarily focusing on luxury residential environments, the collaboration between the two companies combines advanced lighting control capabilities from Vantage and the Luminetix araya5 light engine built into WAC tunable low-voltage LED lighting fixtures.

The Vantage controller is programmed to match the sunrise/sunset schedule shift throughout the year in order to best support the natural circadian rhythm, as based on the location of the installation. Scenic presets can override programming at any time through a button press to match daily tasks, be it studying or winding down. The platform is compatible with DMX or 0V to 10V protocols, providing single-button control no matter the technology behind the LED source.
