Pioneer Adds Dolby Atmos to Speakers, Receivers

Pioneer Electronics announces a lineup of Dolby Atmos-enabled, Andrew Jones-designed Elite speakers and Elite SC series home theater receivers, all Dolby Atmos upgradeable via firmware update available by end 2014.

Dolby AtmosAs the company puts it the 2014 flagship Elite SC receivers with Dolby Atmos have the multi-channel processing and power required to fully create the Dolby Atmos effect.

"We’ve been at the forefront of every technology available for the home theater environment and we’re making a point to have the Dolby Atmos technology into the latest products that will captivate and transport audiences with multi-dimensional sound,” the company says.

Dolby Atmos is the latest incarnation of the Dolby surround standard. It was first introduced in cinemas in 2012, and will make a home theatre debut later this year.

Blu-ray players already support playback of Dolby Atmos audio, but speaker systems require a companion module.

More details on the Dolby Atmos-enabled Pioneer products will be available following the 2014 CE Week Show, New York.
