Meridian Presents MQA at CES

Meridian presents its Master Quality Authenticated (MQA) technology at CES 2015-- an high-resolution audio format with files compact enough for downloads or streaming despite being fully lossless.

MQA previewEssentially MQA is a means for record labels to re-encode (or "encapsulate", as Meridian calls it) studio-master recordings into a high-resolution file no bigger than a CD. Getting the most out of MQA files requires an appropriate decoder (either hardware or software) but the format is backward compatible, producing CD-quality sound on hardware lacking the appropriate decoder.

Meridian is a veteran in high-resolution audio-encoding technology, being the developer of one of the codecs used in Blu-ray discs and the codec used in SACD (Super Audio Compact Disc).

In addition CES 2015 also saw the company teaming up with high-resolution streaming service Tidal, providing Sooloos system owners with access to the Tidal high-resolution music library. Meanwhile purchasers of the MQA-enabled Meridian Explorer² USB DAC get a free 3 month trial of the service.
