A Sonos Playbar Update for 2020?

According to both Zatz Not Funny! and 9to5Mac Sonos plans to launch an update of the Playbar, with the first website claiming to not only have news, but also renders of the upcoming home theatre product from the audio maker.

Sonos Playbar 2020

First released back in 2013, the Playbar is a Sonos product still to receive an update or refresh. Since then, the company launched the Play in 2017 and, a year later, the Beam. The two news websites say the 2020 Playbar will include Dolby Atmos support, with Zatz adding it will even feature Apple AirPlay 2 support.

The renders on the Zatz Not Funny! report are possibly incomplete, since they lack anything akin to a power outlet or an HDMI port. What they do show is a device with a more cylindrical design and touch sensitive surfaces on the top instead of the side-mounted control buttons of the first model. Rumours suggest it is also longer than the first Playbar, suggesting an improvement on forward channel separation, while recent FCC filings point out the addition of 802.11ac connectivity.

In other Sonos rumours, both Zatz Not Funny and 9to5Mac report the company plans to launch other devices this year-- specifically updates of the Play:5 wireless speaker and Sub subwoofer. As for a launch window, 9to5Mac points at a possible June 2020 release for all the aforementioned Sonos updates.
