Droplit Launches Smart Home System

Automation startup Droplit takes to Kickstarter to launch a new "easy-to-use" smart home system, one allowing users to integrate and control all smart home devices using either Cue remote or smartphone app.

Droplit At the heart of the system is a Gateway device one plugs directly into the wall. It connect to devices via either Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy, wifi or Z-Wave (requires additional Z-Stick add-on), and promises to be compatible with a wide range of smart home devices both current and future through a "powerful" developer API.

Droplit-compatible devices include Philips Hue smart bulbs, LIFX smart bulbs, Sonos speakers and Belkin WeMo products.

One admittedly unique feature the system offers is a single button allowing one to turn an entire room on and off, as well as custom "scenes" simultaneously switching multiple devices to a predefined state.  For example, one can set a scene where the lights turn on, air conditioning starts up and a favourite song starts playing when they enter a room.

The company is looking to gather $50000 in preorders on the crowd-funding site, and should the campaign be successful the Droplit Gateway and Cue remote should start shipping from June 2015.
