Samsung hopes to deliver smart TV functionality on dumb(er) TVs with the Smart Media Player (GX-SM530CF), an STB promising over combine live TV with apps such as Amazon instant Video, Netflix, Vudu and YouTube.
It features the same software familiar to all Samsung Smart TV (and some Blu-ray players) users, and also features AllCast for the mirroring of content from mobile devices on the big screen.
What lacks, however, is DVR functionality.
"With our new Samsung Smart Media Player, we're providing consumers with an all-in-one solution that makes the TV-watching experience "smarter,"" the company claims. "This great product brings the Samsung Smart TV experience to any digital TV, giving customers a seamless home entertainment experience that combines live cable content and Smart TV applications all in one device."
