Crestron unveils its next generation at Infocomm 2011-- the MC3, the first 3-series control system carrying Crestron's Core 3 OS.
The platform is Crestron's first to be developed as an IT platform (rather than an AV system), allowing for real-time multitasking for up to x10 independent programs on the same platform-- from AV and lighting to HVAC, security and so on.
The system is also upgradeable with minimal downtime, as one can shift processing resources from one 3-series processor to another without any code rewriting. Restarting or uploading one program does not affect the others.
It carries 256MB of RAM and 2GB of flash memory (expandable to up to 1TB).
As well as IP-based connections, it also handles e-Control (allowing users to control their system from any internet-connected device) and infiNET EX wireless control, as well as Crestron's own Cresnet.
Control port options include ethernet, x2 bidirectional RS-232 COM ports and x5 IR ports.
