The THX-Certified UHD TV

Sharp launches the LC-70UD1U Aquos UHD/4K LED TV-- a 70-inch TV with THX certification (an industry first according to the company) and a dual-core processor upscaling HD signals to 3840x2160 resolution.

Shart UHD TVTHX certification brings pre-calibrated THX Movie and Bright Room Movie modes, which THX says are tweaked  “for the least amount of processing and the most accurate picture, for a one-button solution at home.”

Audio comes through a 6-speaker system packing separate mid-range, tweeters and a Sharp DuoBass 35W dual subwoofer system.

The display is passive 3D-capable, while the Sharp SmartCentral smart TV platform handles connectivity with built-in wifi, simultaneous web browsing and TV viewing (via split-screen) and a wallpaper mode allowing use as a low-power oversized digital picture frame.

Inputs include x4 HDMI, SD-card, and x2 USB. The TV is also compatible with Sharp Remote Control and Beam mobile device apps.

The LC-70UD1U should start shipping from August 2013, at least in the US.
