Sony Projectors at IFA 2013

Sony shows off a pair of projector additions at IFA 2013-- the VPL-VW500ES 4K home cinema projector and an update on the VPL-HW50ES, the VPL-HW55ES 3D projector.

Sony 4K projectorThe VPL-VW500ES is the 2nd 4K-capable projector from the company, following the 2012 VPL-VW1000ES. It features DCI-based 4K (4096x2160) resolutions with the latest HDMI standard (version 2.0), and carries what Sony calls "Reality Creation" technology to upscale regular HD content.

It is rated at 1700 Ansi lumens brightness with a 200000:1 contrast ratio.

According to Sony the projector is capable of projecting large distances without need to alter its position in the room, thanks to a 20.6 zoom lens with a wide shift range.

A built-in RF transmitter provides further installation flexibility through wide wireless signal coverage.

Also introduced at IFA is the VPL-HW55ES, a 3D 1080p projector with 1700 Ansi lumens brightness, 120000:1 contrast ratio and a lamp life of around 5000 hours.

Both projectors should be available by end October 2013.
