Sony Intros VPL-VW675ES 4K HDR Projector

Sony presents the VPL-VW675ES at CEDIA 2016-- a compact native 4K resolution home cinema projector featuring Hybrid Log-Gamma (HyLG) technology, a key component in upcoming HDR TV broadcasts.

Sony projectorHyLG technology is a development by NHK and the BBC. It facilitates the broadcast of HDR content by ensuring broadcasters can utlise current 10-bit infrastructure, necessitating only the upgrade of cameras and critical monitoring displays, as opposed to the entire system.

The VPL-VW675ES does not support HyLG out of the box, since it will come through a firmware update following the standardisation of the new HDMI specification. However it does support HDR10, allowing users to enjoy streaming HDR content from the likes of Amazon Video and Netflix, as well as UHD Blu-ray players.

The projector also provides a features enabling customers to adjust average screen brightness according to the environment or preferences while maintaining HDR reproduction. Like other Sony HDR home theatre projectors the VPL-VW675ES uses native 4K SXRD panels, with no manipulation of pixels (wobulation), with the latest HDMI standard and HDCP 2.2 providing 4K content services.

Maximum brightness reaches 1800 lumens with a dynamic contrast ratio of 350000:1, and Sony claims the projector runs for up to 6000 hours maintenance-free. A built-in RF 3D transmitter provides a strong wireless signal for wider coverage and 3D synchronisation stability, while an auto-calibration function resets projector colour colorimetry to original factory levels to ensure consistent picture quality throughout use.

The VPL-VW675ES is available from November 2016.
