Sound United Buys D+M Group

The D+M Group, owner of Denon, HEOS and Marantz, gets a new owner in the shape of Sound United, the parent company of US hi-fi brands Polk and Definitive Technology.

Sound UnitedFinancial details of the deal are not available, but it extends a previous distribution partnership formed by the two companies back in 2014. Sound United is the largest loudspeaker supplier in N. America, but is still to make inroads in Europe. Post-acquisition the consolidated company will retain the Sound United name, with D+M Group CEO Jim Caudill remaining on board as advisor.

"Sound United and the D+M Group employees share a culture of innovation and customer focus. We plan to leverage those core values in the combined company in order to offer consumers and our channel partners a breadth of complementary products while expanding our investments in technology development and marketing," Sound United CEO Kevin Duffy says. "We welcome the addition of the D+M team and are excited to work together to ensure that this strategic combination capitalises on its global leadership position while also ensuring that each of our individual brands continues to be highly differentiated in the marketplace."
