Westinghouse Security (the company formerly known as NextLock) launches builds a Z-Wave, Bluetooth LE and wifi home automation hub into a smart door lock called the Nucli, a product first seen at CES 2015.
While looking like any other smart door lock, the Nucli packs an integrated outdoor camera, motion detection, fingerprint reader, inner and outer touchscreens, accelerometer, VoIP communications and doorbell. Wireless connectivity comes through Z-Wave, Bluetooth and wifi, and Westinghouse says it can be used to control Z-Wave devices (via custom touchscreen swipes) either individually or in groups.
Door opening comes through either keypad PIN or smartphone app virtual keys shareable with up to 50 users. Customers can also open the Nucli with the SmartFob, a Z-Wave-enabled keyfob complete with a biometric and keypad reader that doubles as a home automation controller.
Power comes through a USB-rechargeable battery, and super capacitor technology ensures the lock is usable even batteries are near-dead. In case of dead-dead batteries the Nucli also includes an outer 9V battery terminal.
The Nucli is available from July 2015, but Westinghouse also offers an early-access program for customers wanting to test out device's software and optional cloud-based notification service
