Customers want both a smart bulb and a security camera, but refuse to install more than one device? The LightCam might be the solution, being a security camera one installs in any light socket.
The LightCam is a combination of security camera and smart light bulb. It should fit in any standard light socket, with a 1080p camera complete with IR sensors pushing images (as triggered by motion sensors) to companion smartphone app. Built-in storage records around 7 days of footage, and users can add more storage space through backups to smartphone, PC or cloud storage. Built-in speakers and microphone provide 2-way communications.
“We designed LightCam to be a versatile and affordable security camera for your home,” inventor Daniel Swiss says. “LightCam requires no drilling, no wires, and no hassle. You just plug it in, turn it on and it works.”
Setup promises to be easy through wifi connectivity, LightCam app and QR code. The camera extends downward and rotates by 360 degrees to accomodate any lens angle. The lens also includes a patent-pending skirt the maker says avoids any lens glare even in enclosed glass light fixtures. The hardware promises to be weather rated, and on the lighting side it uses LED lights rated to last 15-20 years.
The LightCam is currently available on a preorder basis on Indiegogo, with shipments expected to start from August 2018.
