DTS Play-Fi Expands Works With Alexa Products

DTS announces more Play-Fi-enabled products are compatible with the Alexa smart assistant, including speakers from Aerix, Klipsch, McIntosh, Onkyo, Pioneer, Phoros and Soundcast.

Play-Fi AlexaMore products, namely "select" soundbars and AVRs, will also get the upgrade throughout the year.

Alexa compatibility allows customers to control Play-Fi products from another room using their voice and an Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, Echo Show or other Alexa-enabled device. Voice controls include playback of a song in a specific room or group of linked rooms, as well as volume, track skipping, mute, pause, and stop. One simply needs to link an Amazon account to a compatible Play-Fi product, and Alexa automatically learns the speaker name.

Parasound Presents Flagship Halo JC5

Parasound launches a flagship stereo power amplifier-- the Halo JC5, designed by respected audio expert John Curl and promising to boil down "the essence of the two top-of-the-line Halo JC1 monoblock power amps into a single chassis."

Parasound Halo JC5The design features a high power and ultra-high bias Class A/B topography able to deliver 400W per channel. High bias A/AB provides 12W per channel pure class A power and class AB to the 400W per channel 8 ohms rating. It delivers 600W per channel into 4 ohms, and can be bridged to mono for 1200W into 8 ohms. The output stage features 24 beta-matched, 15 ampere, 60MHz bipolar transistors to deliver peak current of 90 amperes. Meanwhile the power supply employs a 1.7kVA shielded toroid power transformer with a H18 grade steel core. It has independent secondary windings for the dual-mono power supply.

Klipsch starts shipping the Heritage Theatre Bar-- a three-channel soundbar available in 3 different widths, four different veneers, including a paintable finish, and a choice of four removable grille cloths.

Klipsch Heritage BarThe passive left, centre, right soundbar comes inside a low-profile body complete with built-in wall mounting. It is 0.6cm deep, and Klipsch includes a centralised input panel for all 3 channels on the front of the device for easy installation and setup.

Inside the Heritage Theatre Bar are Klipsch Tractrix horn technology and titanium tweeters, together with dual 4-inch Cerematallic woofers the company says maintain rigidity while achieving minimal cone breakup and distortion. Frequency response is 95Hz to 20kHz +/- 3dB, -10dB at 75Hz. Nominal impedance clocks at 8 ohms, while crossover totals 2800Hz.

B&W Intros Prestige Edition 802 and 805 Speakers

bw prestigeBowers & Wilkins launches Prestige Editions of the iconic 802 and 805 loudspeakers, both featuring the same audio specifications within a high-gloss Santos Rosewood finish hand prepared at the company's UK factory.

The company says the finishing process requires 40% more manufacturing time than a standard 800 series Diamond loudspeaker. It involves no less than 13 coats of lacquer to create the luxurious colour and distinctive grain pattern, and the process takes around 4 weeks.

Cord-cutting STB maker Roku looks to cut audio cables as it announces the Roku TV Wireless Speakers-- a pair of, well, wireless speakers able to pair with Roku-powered hardware via wifi.

Roku wireless speakerThe Roku wireless speakers are reminiscent of the HomePod, and are designed to work exclusively with Roku co-branded TVs. They run on "Roku Connect," a combination of hardware and software allowing the speakers to pair with all Roku OS devices available on the network. Once connected to the TV, the speakers play "optimised sound" from all other connected devices, including cable boxes, antennas and even mobile devices paired via Bluetooth.
