Surfaces Get Interactive with Lumo

A startup named Lumo Play presents a charming take on consumer interactive projection-- the Lumo, a device combining a pico projector, Android software, a motion IR sensor and wifi connectivity into a wall-mountable sphere.

Lumo PlayMarketed mainly at parents with kids aged 2 to 12, the Lumo projects 1.2 x 1.8m images on flat surfaces. Said images are interactive, allowing users to play simple games with physical gestures such as kicking, jumping and hand waving.

Additionally it also works as a regular projector and able to handle non-gesture based Android games and apps through the connection of a Bluetooth controller.

Vivitek Intros Home Cinema Projectors

Vivitek announces a pair of 1080p home theatre projectors-- the H1186 and the H1188, both powered by a Texas Instruments DLP Dark Chip3 and featuring 2000 ANSI lumens brightness and 50000:1 contrast ratio.

Vivitek projectorThe H1188 includes what Vivitek calls VividMotion, an image-smoothing technology eliminating jitter and glitches during fast panning movements. In addition the two projectors carry a 6-segment RGBRGB colour wheel and MHL connectivity for easy streaming of content from smartphones and tablets.

LG Adds to Minibeam Projectors

LG launches a pair of additions to the Minibeam portable projector lineup-- the Minibeam Pro (PF1500) and the Minibeam TV (PW800), both featuring lightweight form factors, fast setup and wireless connectivity.

LG MinibeamThe Minibeam Pro is designed as a portable home theatre solution. It projects 120-inch images at HD resolution (1920x1080) with 1400 ANSI lumens  brightness, and features 4 cornerstone keystone buttons for easy elimination of distortion should the projector not be perfectly aligned with the screen.

An optical zoom allows for further image adjustment, while Bluetooth handles connection to sounders, portable speakers and wireless headphones for audio duties.

Epson Pushes Home Cinema 3500

Epson announces the Home Cinema 3500-- a 1080p home theatre projector using 3LCD technology to project 2500 lumens of colour brightness and 2500 lumens of white brightness with a contrast ration of 70000:1.

Epson cinemaThe compact project features a pair of built-in 10W stereo speakers, and according to Epson customers can “place the projector on a table or even on a tight shelf space.” It features 7 built-in colour modes for the optimising of images for different applications, such as well-lit living rooms, backyards or garages, and users can colour-correct for projection on surfaces other than white screens.

Epson Projector Brings 4K Enhancement

Epson brings its 4K enhancement technology to the home cinema market with the EH-LS10000-- a 1080p laser projector featuring a dual laser light source to deliver wide colour gamut and "absolute" black.

The projector uses 3LCD reflective technology and promises high white and light colour output for vivid colours, while a 408Hz ensures bright 3D images. Further features include ISF calibration, detail enhancement technology, frame interpolation, 2D to 3D conversion and depth control.

Stewart Filmscreen launches LuminEsse-- a rigid front-projection wall screen system featuring an "edgeless" design (with less than 10mm bezel) ideal for both residential and commercial applications.

Stewart LuminEsseConfigurable with any Stewart Filmscreen 4K+ rate front-projection materials (including FireHawk G4, GrayHawk RS G4 and StudioTek 130), LuminEsse is available in sizes of up to 120-inch in HD 16:9 formats and up to 128-inch in Cinemascope 2.35:1 configuration. It uses the the Stewart wall mount system for inexpensive and simple installation, and additional mounting solutions will be available in the coming months.

Interestingly the company offers an optional LED backlighting kit providing bias lighting for more comfortable viewing or, when off, mood lights.

The Beam Projector in an LED Bulb

Beam Labs combines lighting and projection as it presents the Beam-- a pico projector inside an oversized LED light bulb users can screw into any standard light socket, no battery power or wall socket required.

Beam projectorThe projection is perhaps underpowered (being 845x480 resolution at 100 lumens brightness), but, being Android-powered, the device also handles apps and has a few clever tricks. Using a companion smartphone app users can set a variety of If Then This That (IFTTT) triggers, such as beaming social media updates on specific times or playing a YouTube video when someone comes home.

Specifications-wise the Beam also carries a 1.3GHz dual-core processor, 8GB storage, wifi connectivity and a pair of 2W speakers. It also doubles as a regular LED bulb, and Beam Labs also offers a bayonet mount adapter and an extension fabric cable.
