Titan’s Zeus

British maker Titan launches the world's largest television: four times the size of the current biggest TV. If you are watching World Cup, Titan’s largest Zeus at 8 metres by 5 metres is just bigger than the size of a football goal.

Titan hopes to score with Zeus, the world's first £1 million TV, and has already sold two. The screens, made for indoor use, can also be used outdoor in bright sunlight, says Zeus.

The 4K Titan Zeus displays 65 million colours and weighs in at almost a tonne. The cost includes installation and delivery in a custom-built Hummer.

Titan also creates 1000-inch "mid-range" screens for £150,000.

MIT Takes on Glasses-Free 3D

  • PDF

MIT Media Lab researchers propose a new design for glasses-free multiperspective 3D video-- a display they hope will provide a lower-cost alternative to holographic video.

MIT Media Lab"Multiperspective" 3D is different from the stereoscopic 3D we know and love, since it displays different perspectives on objects as the viewer moves around, hologram-style.

The MIT design currently exists as a prototype built using off-the-shelf components. It consists of two liquid-crystal modulators (basically tiny LCDs) set between a light source and lens. The first modulator acts as a bank of light emitters, since it has patterns of light and dark allowing it to pass light to the second modulator only at particular angles. The pattern combination the two modulators display ensures viewers see slightly different images from different angles.

Casio’s Geometric Correction Box

  • PDF

Casio YA-S10

Casio’s YA-S10 Geometric Correction Box enables mesh-based warping of video inputs, controlled via a remote control. It is specifically aimed at the digital signage market, providing a simple solution for systems integrators.

The geometric correction box allows irregularities in the projection surface to be evened out at the push of a button on the remote control. The correction box also allows projections onto otherwise” un-projectable” surfaces, such as curved surfaces, at an angle or even on round pillars.

Thanks to free-form compensation, you can correct even extreme curved surfaces and angles. The box is easy to connect to projectors, taking only seconds. The correction box is available separately and can be used with Casio projectors.
