Joe Manning, formerly the international sales representative for the Runco and Vidikron brands, has been appointed to oversee the entry of the avielo series into the high-end home cinema market for projectiondesign.
 
In his role as International Market Manager, Home Theater, Mr. Manning will use his expertise to create and develop the product mix for the state-of-the-art home cinema segment and will oversee worldwide sales, outside the Americas, of the avielo series through an expanded network of high-end audio and video distributors. 

Prior to this appointment, Mr. Manning spent fourteen years as the international sales representative for Runco International developing a world-wide sales distribution network for their Runco and Vidikron brands. As owner and president of International Sales, Manning is also known for developing international distribution networks with high-profile manufacturers such as Audio Design Associates, California Audio Technology, Newport Audio, Niveus Media, and Tributaries Cables.

In a surprise move, Milestone AV Technologies, owners of the merged Chief and Sanus brands, drop their IPO plans and sell out to Duchossois Group for an un-disclosed amount of cash.

Duchossois Group already includes AMX (automation), Autopatch (A/V switching), and Matrix (multiroom audio), Chamberlain (garage door openers and gate access), Heath/Zenith (electrical devices such as chimes), Durasol (retractable awnings), and Churchill Downs (horse racing). OK, so we don’t know why horse racing but the others make sense.

Milestone will operate as an independent business unit of the Duchossois Group; Scott Gill continues as CEO.

Shimadzu says its green laser light source is much more compact and energy efficient than earlier models.

Unlike red and blue lasers, green lasers cannot be emitted directly from semiconductor devices using current techniques. Instead, light from a semiconductor laser that emits infrared rays is passed through special optical crystals and changed into green light.

Measuring 2cm in diameter and around 5cm long, the thumb-sized light source is just one-eighth the volume of an earlier prototype. In addition to the high-efficiency optical crystals, eliminating the interior air layer helped to boost light-emission efficiency.

The device can produce 50 milliwatts of green light continuously for 6 hours when powered by two AA-size batteries. Combined with red and blue semiconductor laser devices already commercialized for use in optical discs, the new green laser light source could pave the way for portable, compact projectors roughly the size of a pencil box.
