Wi-SUN Alliance Works Further on Interoperability

The Wi-SUN Alliance, the group promoting IEEE 802.15.4g interoperability standard, completes verification of the Physical Layer Conformance and Interoperability Test specification for Wireless Smart Utility Network devices.

Wi-SUN AllianceThe test specification are the final step in the creation of a certification process for products carrying a Wi-SUN PHY logo assuring seamless interoperable deployment within utility networks.

Alliance members also validated the Wi-SUN PHY specification as the foundation for key utility network areas, including Field Area Networks and Home Area Networks.

“Completion of the PHY specification, and verification of the PHY Test specifications, each marks a major step in establishing the Wi-SUN Alliance certification program,” the Alliance says.  “We are rapidly approaching the time when a "Wi-SUN Certified" logo will provide buyers confidence that the products in question have been formally validated to be interoperable.”

Earlier last month at Wireless Japan 2013 the Alliance demonstrated the interoperation of independent standards-based products using the ECHONET Lite (IEEE802.15.4/4e/4g@920MHz-band wireless) standard, the result of collaboration with the ECHONET Consortium.

The standard (number JJ300.10, mode A and C) is already the the communication interface of choice of the TTC (Telecommunication Technology Committee) of Japan for Japanese standard home energy management.

“We believe ECHONET-Lite is an important component in the integration of Smart Grid services inside and outside the home and we are committed to using our expertise to help drive industry adoption,” the Wi-SUN Alliance says.
