tado° launches its second generation smart thermostat-- one featuring the same minimalist look of the first model, but adds a capacitative LED-matrix touch display for direct interaction with the device.
According to the company not all customers were content with the smartphone app as sole means of thermostat control, thus the addition of subtle physical controls.
“When starting the design we knew that our customers did not want a full featured display on the device that would draw too much attention or constantly light up a living room," the company says. "By placing the display behind the main surface and having the LED matrix shine through, we have been able to meet this challenge in an elegant and fascinating way.”
Functionality-wise the tado° thermostat remains mostly the same. It connects to heating systems (even those without a thermostat via Extension Kit), and uses the geo-aware app to sense when the last person leaves the house in order to turn down heating. It also controls hot water, integrates weather forecasts and promises to save customers up to 31% of their heating costs.
One addition is tado° Care, a service which analyses boiler data to provide notifications and advice for the prevention of breakdowns and malfunctions.
