System Integration for the Connected Home

Home Control on the Wrist

  • PDF

Following an initial foray into automation, the Bolt smart lightbulb, wearable device maker Misfit expands further into home control via partnerships with Nest, August, Logitech and If This Then That (IFTTT).

Misfit ControlThus the company's Flash wearable can be transformed from mere fitness tracker to home controller, allowing users to manage a variety of devices by tapping the device or even through their sleep patterns. IFTTT handles trigger-based connection to over 160 products and services, Logitech provides its new Harmony API and Nest integration allows the smart thermostat to "learn" sleep patterns to wake up users at the ideal temperature.

Other Misfit-compatible devices include smart locks from August and Latch, the Leeo Smart Alert Nightlight and even Spotify-enabled music players.

The unassuming Flash wearable might actually be the ideal smart home controller-- it is lightweight, always-on (with a 6-month battery life) and very easy to use with either single or double button presses. Is Misfit about to hit a smart home goldmine? We will know once the above mentioned Flash integration goes live on March 2015.
