Sharp Brings 8K TV to Europe

  • PDF

Customers demanding a TV with the most pixels now get a Sharp option-- the Aquos LC-70X500E is a 70-inch UHD TV offering 7680 x 4320 resolution. Or, in other words, an 8K TV.

Sharp 8K TVFirst launched at IFA 2017 and already available in Japan and China, the LC-70X500E pushes no less than 33 million pixels, for a density of 125 ppi. It also offers wide colour technology covering 79% of the Rec.2020 colour gamut, and supports HDR through HLG and HDR10. The display uses full array LED backlighting technology with 216 LED zones of dynamic local dimming, and a 2.1 audio subsystem is included.

Connectivity comes through four standard 2K/4K HDMI ports and four "bundled" ports-- essentially, since the current HDMI standard does not handle 8K content, an 8K source parallel HDMI connections.

But what would one watch on an 8K display? Unlike Japan, no European broadcaster is currently holding 8K TV tests, never mind plans for a full blown service. As such, one might use the TV to test the Sharp 8K camera, or simply use its built-in upscaling technology to convert 2K/4K conent to a higher resolution.

The curious (and moneyed) can buy the LC-70X500E now. The price? €11899.
