TPV Gets Gibson-Held CE Licenses

  • PDF

Following the bankruptcy of legendary guitar maker Gibson, Hong Kong-based TPV Technology gets the worldwide license for the Philips brand in audio and video products and accessories.

Philips TPVUntil recently Gibson Innovations was responsible for sales, marketing and distribution of certain Philips-branded audio and video products and accessories worldwide. These include headphones, Bluetooth speakers, audio playback speakers and DECT cordless phones. TPV (and its TP Vision unit) already held the Philips license for a number of devices, namely TVs, mobile phones, tablets and monitors, outside of N. America.

The deal is effective from 1 June 2018, and lasts 5 years. It does not affect the longstanding Philips licensing agreement with Funai Electric-Osaka covering TVs and video disc players sold under the Philips and Magnavox names in N. America, Mexico and select Latin American countries.

The Chapter 11 post-bankruptcy reorganisation also has Gibson dropping Gibson Innovations CE operation-- which it acquired from Philips in 2014. Also sold is the Onkyo brand, now owned by Chinese TV maker TCL.
