The European Samsung QLED TV range gets an addition with the Q8D-- a TV line available in 55-, 65- and 75-inch sizes complete with Full Array Local Dimming and HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG support.

Samsung Q8DKnown in the US as the Q8F, the Q8D does not have the peak brightness of the flagship Q9FN, even if promises a boost over other OLED displays with Q Contrast Plus promising "pristine contrast" and an anti-reflective covering improving daylight viewing. Samsung adds bright screens can affect colour, bringing about 100% colour volume technology for a "stunning visual experience" when paired with HDR.

On the smart feature side, an Ambient mode provides useful information such as news headlines, traffic reports and weather updates while the TV is not showing movies or shows. In addition, the mode can mimic the pattern on the wall behind the TV, allowing the display to turn sort-of invisible when mounted on said wall.

The SmartThings mobile device app promises "effortless login," a Universal Guide feature handles navigation across streaming services and live TV through a single menu and S-Voice provides voice control. Cable management is also included, since the back of the TV has embedded lines allowing installers to simply push cables in place.

The Q8D ships from July 2018.
