Panasonic Claims "Most Cinematic TV"

  • PDF

Panasonic is not one to be left out of the current TV arms race as it launches the GZ2000-- a TV featuring a custom-made 4K OLED panel claiming "unparalleled colour accuracy and significantly better than average brightness levels."

Panasonic GZ2000Available in 55- and 65-inch versions, the GZ2000 is described as the first OLED TV to support both HDR10+ and Dolby Vision HDR, as well as the HLG Photo HDR still image format. Panasonic says the OLED panel is a combination of technological accuracy and the colour-tuning skills of Stefan Sonnenfield, one of the leaders in colour grading in Hollywood. Further pushing the TV is an HCX Pro Intelligent Processor able to handle the previously mentioned HDR metadata formats.

The result, the company claims, is an OLED panel with increased dynamic range thanks to boosted average brightness levels and contrast handling. The TV even promises to handle the variable brightness and contrast found in live sports broadcasts and action movies. Installers also get some extras, since the GZ2000 supports CalMAN PatternGen test patterns, AutoCal functionality and Imaging Science Foundation (ISF) calibration settings.

Another first, at least to according to Panasonic, is a built-in up-firing speaker system able to deliver Dolby Atmos immersive audio. It is powered by the JENO Engine from Panasonic's Technics brand, and allows for "accurate, refined sound." On the UI side the GZ2000 features a redesigned My Home Screen 4.0 compelte with custom layouts, and is compatible with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa voice control.

Panasonic is still to announce when the GZ2000 hits the market.
