Chord Company Adds XLPE to More Cables

  • PDF

The Chord Company adds XLPE technology to two more loudspeaker cables-- the Odyssey and Epic both receive an upgrade from the original PTFE (what most people know as Teflon) to XLPE (aka Cross-Linked Polyetylene).

Chord Company XLPEThe OdysseyX and EpicXL join several recently launched loudspeaker cables offering improved performance over the previous versions. XPLE promises improved phase properties over PTFE insulation, while offering a lower pricepoint compared to the flagship Taylon insulation. Cables featuring the technology also include silver-plated ChordOhmic speaker plugs.

OdysseyX is a version of the RumourX loudspeaker cable with a heavier-gauge conductors (as found in the Chord Epic and EpicXL speaker cables), allowing for more details and dynamics, along with greater control and definition, across a range of loudspeakers. The OdysseyX has silver-plated OFC conductors in a twisted-pair configuration, and the white PVC outer jacket has an 8mm diameter.

Meanwhile EpicXL combines the separately shielded conductor design from the SignatureXL speaker cables with the silver-plated XLPE-insulated 12AWG conductors ofo the Epic. The use of separate shields for each conductor gives greater neutrality, less noise and a more immersive soundstage. A soft PVC internal jacket spaces the shielded, while a translucent outer jacket protect a high-density braid and foil shield designed to reduce mechanical noise.

The OdysseyX and EpicXL cables are available now at both of-the-reel or terminated lengths.
