LG Rolls Out Short Throw 4K Laser Projector

  • PDF

LG announces the availability of the HU85LA, a 2nd-gen short-throw 4K laser projector able to create a 90-image projection from just 5.5cm distance (or a 120-inch image from 18cm away).

LG projectorFirst launched back at CES 2019, the HU85LA is a followup to the first LG short-throw 4K laser projector, the HU80KA. The update features a change in design, since instead of a tall, black tower the HU85LA looks like a rectangular gray box. It promises images reaching up to 2700 ANSI lumens of brightness, with a fixed UST lens offering a 0.19 throw ratio.

The projector uses an LG DLP XPR chip and a light engine featuring a 3-channel laser design promising a wider colour gamut while eliminating the need for a sequential colour wheel. It supports HDR10 with dynamic tone mapping, and is rated for 20000 hours of life. Setup comes through 12-point keystone/warp adjustment.

LG adds some smart TV features to the projector, since it runs on WebOS. As such it supports popular streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Google Play Movies, YouTube and Spotify, and features both Google Assistant and ThinQ technology for voice-based search. An integrated digital TV tuner allows direct connection to an antenna, while Miracast support allows screen sharing. Audio is also included through a pair of built-in 5W speakers. Connectivity includes x2 HDMI ports, optical audio output and RJ45 connector, as well as Bluetooth and wifi.

The HU85LA is available now.
