Swedish furniture maker IKEA further commits to home automation as it establishes IKEA Home smart, the initiative to add digital smarts into products and solutions, as a dedicated business unit within the company.
“At IKEA we want to continue to offer products for a better life at home for the many people going forward," the company says. In order to do so we need to explore products and solutions beyond conventional home furnishing."
First started back in 2012, IKEA Home Smart has set to enhance IKEA products and solutions with digital elements and technologies such as wireless charging, smart lighting and smart audio. IKEA also has an own smart lighting ecosystem first introduced via TRÅDFRI, and it changed the name to IKEA Home smart app in June 2019.
In addition the retailer has relationships with 3rd parties, the most notable being a partnership with Sonos leading to the Symfonisk wireless speaker range. As a result, it hopes to further invest and scale up with the Home smart business unit.
