Philips Hue Box Syncs Lights With TV Shows

  • PDF

Signify announces a means to synchronise Philips Hue lighting with the TV-- the Play HDMI Sync Box, a means to "create immersive media experiences" by matching the colour and brightness of the lights with the action on the screen.

As the company puts it, the sync box sits between any HDMI device, be it a streaming device, satellite or cable STB, games console, Blu-ray or DVD player, or laptop, and the TV, in order to take movies, music, TV shows or games to "the next level" with surround lighting. Setup takes place using the Philips Hue Sync mobile app, and users can connect up to x10 Hue colour-capable lights to the system.

In turn, the sync box handles up to x4 HDMI devices. It can switch automatically between the different HDMI channels, depending on the one in use at the moment, without any delays or lag, and the companion app allows users to control the brightness, speed and intensity of the light effects. One can also configure the default settings for easier use, and the connected lights can still access the full functionality of the Hue ecosystem.

The Play HDMI Sync box ships from October 2019 in a number of European markets, namely Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and the Benelux region.
