Powershades Powers Shades Via PoE

Powershades claims it is the first company to launch a line of Power over Ethernet (PoE) automated window shades, with a quiet PoE motor bringing both flexibility and ease of installation for customers and installers.

Powershades PoE ShadesAccording to the company, installation of the PoE solution does not require an electrical license to to wire for hardwired shades. Instead, the installer simply needs to pull a Cat 5 cable for both power and communication. The use of a single network cable means no proprietary hardwiring is necessary, and the low-voltage motor (under 50V AC) does not require a licensed electrician or special certifications.

With power coming from a single, central source, the network cable can also carry more information while improving reliability over traditional RF solutions. For instance, installers can add sensors to meet current and future customer needs. The automated shades also include cloud connectivity for remote control via smartphone, tablet or PC, as well as the creation and deployment of groups, scenes and schedules across multiple facilities, limit setting, soft start and stop, favourite position settings and low power consumption.

Customers can add a PoE motor to any Powershades product. All window shades are fully customisable with a wide variety of fabrics, power options and styles, including roller, pleated and honeycomb shades, horizontal blinds and more. The system is compatible with a range of automation systems, including Amazon Alexa, RTI, Google Home, SmartThings, Crestron, Elan, Control4 and URC.
