The first 2020 TVs from Sony start shipping-- namely the XH81, XH80 and X70, all 4K HDR models promising the Sony "signature picture quality, sound user experience," in sizes ranging from 43-  to 85-inch.

The XH81 and XH80 carry the X1, a processor Sony claims can cut noise and boost detail through advanced algorithms, making images closer to 4K resolution. The Triluminos panel reproduces more colours than conventional TVs, while Dolby Vision support delivers deeper darks and vibrant colours. Models larger than 55-inch also include an X-Balanced speaker allowing for high quality, Dolby Atmos-compatible sound from an ultra-thin TV design.

Both TVs run on Android TV with Google Assistant, Google Play and Chromecast built-in, providing customers with easy access to content, services and devices. Sony says the UI and voice controls are enhanced for better daily use, and support for both Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa allows for device control. Also included is Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit compatibility for control via iDevices.

Meanwhile the X70 is a 4K TV promising vibrant colours and clear sound from a "beautiful" aluminium design. The 4K X-Reality PRO engine upscales images closer to "true" 4K quality. The TV is a more barebones offering in terms of software, with a simple internet browser and one-click access to YouTube and Netflix apps.

The XH81, XH80 and X70 are shipping now in 43-, 49-, 55-, 65-, 75- and 85-inch sizes.
