Atlona Ships 8-Output 4K/UHD Distribution Amp

  • PDF

Atlona ampAtlona starts shipping the AT-UHD-CAT-8-- an 8-output 4K/UHD distribution amplifier featuring HDMI-to-HDBaseT distribution of 4K/UHD at 60Hz (4:20 Chroma sampling) together with HDBaseT transmission up to 70m.

Also included are HDCP 2.2 support, Power over Ethernet (PoE), EDID management and advanced display control functions via Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) for use with home TVs. An HDMI output allows signal pass-through and daisy-chining, while each output channel has an IR and RS232 connection.

A Plume for a Prettier Router

  • PDF

San Francisco-based Branch Creative proposes a nicer looking means for better home wifi-- the Plume, a compact, jewel-shaped  router in a self-contained "Pod" fitting in an electrical socket.

PlumeThe concept behind the Plume is similar to that behind the Eero router and range extenders. Following initial connection to the ISP's router users simply need to connect multiple pods around the house to create a mesh-like network dubbed "Adaptive Wifi" by the company. The pods work together to ensure the best possible connection and, presumably, provide users with the fastest possible internet.

Further improvement comes through the Plume Cloud, a cloud-based control plane able to actively monitor home networks and continuously adjust signal speed and resiliency. Meanwhile the pods also have an ethernet port in case one needs a wired internet connection.

Panasonic’s DIGITAL LINK with Long Reach Mode

Digital Link

Digital Link is a connection system based on HDBaseT technology that supports the transmission of HDMI signals, uncompressed 4K (4.2.0) video, and Full HD video, audio, and control commands through a single LAN cable for very long distances—up to 150 meters (492 ft)-- in Long Reach Mode.

It’s a simple, high-quality digital transmission technology from Panasonic that works to reduce installation cost and complexity in venues of all sizes.

For example, Digital Link is ideal for multidwelling units (MDUs) or large auditoriums, as it allows 1080/60p signal transmission for up to 150 m (492 ft) and supports 4K video over distances of up to 50m-- with a single LAN cable in each case. It saves money – fewer cables and receivers means reduced chance of failure and far lower infrastructure costs.

Just Add Power Updates Devices With HDR

  • PDF

The Just Add Power 3G Ultra HD over IP device range gets a firmware update-- one allowing the distribution of 4K HDR content to multiple screens over 1Gb networking infrastructure.

Just Add PowerThe update, the company adds, allows installers to create any size of HDMI matrix handling a combination of 4K HDR, non-HDR 4K, 1080p and lower resolution sources to a mixture of HDMI 2.0 and 1.4 displays. The receivers behind each display has a built-in scaler, allowing the downscaling of 4K HDCP 2.2 encrypted content (HDR or otherwise) to 1080p while retaining 2160p with HDCP 2.2 in 4K zones.

Some of the advantages of a single LAN cable are obvious but here is a list from Panasonic:

  • Less chance of system failure with fewer cables and receivers
  • Lower infrastructure cost
  • Reduces cost of control system upgrades
  • Reduces cost of external receivers
  • Reduces total cost of AV control software
  • Reaches further distances
  • Supports 4K video over distances of up to 50 m (164 ft) with a single LAN cable
  • Allows 1080/60p signal transmission for up to 150 m (492 ft) via a single LAN cable using RJ45 connectors and in Long Reach Mode
  • Enables digital connection of uncompressed 4K and Full HD video, audio, LAN, and control commands
  • Minimizes image and sound degradation

Digital Link supports the control protocols of Crestron, Extron, AMX and some others. This makes it easier to configure a wide variety of systems and allows Digital Link to integrate into an existing control setup.

Where more than two display devices are integrated into the network, Digital Link can simplify installation of digital signage networks. DIGITAL LINK is a key plank in Panasonic’s own simplified front-to-back video-wall solutions. Each panel can be daisy-chained via Digital Link, combining digital content and control commands in one cable.

It’s also lets you create a 4K digital display system in locations where cable lengths previously prevented the distribution of 4K content, such as in MDUs, large casinos, corporate boardrooms, campus wayfinding, or retail signage networks.

Box Updates Against Ransomware, Data Theft

  • PDF

Bitdefender updates the Box online security device with Vulnerability Assessment and Active Threat Control, allowing to further protect all connected devices.

Bitdefender BoxVulnerability Assessment identifies security weak links to bolster defenses against data theft, malicious attacks and other intrusions. Meanwhile Active Threat Control monitors processes and system events via machine learning and behaviour-based threat analysis to identify malware.

Customers can access the Vulnerability Assessment by opening the companion Box mobile device app and pressing the Vulnerable Devices button. The service proceeds to scan the network and identify all vulnerabilities.
