QNX operating system software now drives the top-of-the-line Harman Kardon Digital Media Center DMC 1000.

The software in the DMC 1000 media center allows consumers to listen to, store, and transfer a wide variety of media content from electronic devices such as DVD players, CDs, music systems, cell phones, digital cameras, and video cameras. The QNX Neutrino RTOS adds graphics, fast boot-up times, fault- tolerant architecture, and other features.

The DMC 1000 has a progressive-scan DVD-video playback and a 250GB internal hard drive. It digitizes, catalogues, and stores more than 60,000 songs. It also lets the user distribute four separate audio streams from the music library to different locations in the home.

HAI now ships a plug-in UPB (Universal Powerline Bus) Appliance Module as part of its Lighting Control line. The device allows you to control different home appliances via a powerline controller.

The Appliance Module can control plug-in devices up to 15 amps, such as fans, coffee makers, televisions, stereos, non-dimmable or fluorescent lamps and more.

The Appliance Module uses Generation II UPB 2-way powerline technology to be remotely controlled by UPB-compatible controllers, including HAI Omni and Lumina family controllers.  When configured, the Appliance Module senses the load’s local on/off switch (switch trigger) to turn the load on even after it was turned off via UPB control.
