Panasonic, Fox Join HDR10+ Standard

Samsung finds pair of new recruits for its HDR10+ standard-- Panasonic and 20th Century Fox join the effort to create an open dynamic metadata platform with associated certification and logo.

HDR10+The companies are forming a management body to license HDR10+ as from January 2018. Once it is established, content companies, makers of TVs and playback devices, and chip vendors will be able to get the royalty-free HDR metadata standard for a "nominal administrative fee."

“As leaders in home entertainment content and hardware, the three companies are ideal partners for bringing HDR10+ into the homes of consumers everywhere,” Samsung says. “We are committed to making the latest technology available in our TVs and are confident that HDR10+ will deliver premium quality content and enhance the way you experience television programs and movies in the home.”

CEDIA presents a set of tools to help installers market their certifications to both homeowners and fellow professionals, including logos for all certification levels.

CEDIA CertifiedIn fact, part of the tool kit CEDIA has emailed to all certified professionals is a new set of CEDIA Certification logos covering all levels-- CEDIA Electronic Systems Certified (ESC), CEDIA Certified Technician (ESC-T), CEDIA Certified Networking Specialist (ESC-N), and CEDIA Certified Designer (ESC-D).

Another component of the tool kit is access to digital badges through BadgeCert. The program allows installers to add digital certification badges to email signatures, LinkedIn accounts, websites and other social media platforms. Clicking the digital badge allows customers to verify the current status and expiration date of an individual certification, and check what knowledge and skills it represents.

Savant Buys Artison

Savant acquires further audio capability as it buys Artison, a maker of whole-home audio and home theatre solutions. The financial details of the deal are not available.

Savant ArtisonAs the announcement press release puts it, the acquisition provides Savant with "key" Artison patents, as well as audio engineering expertise for the development of "future innovative entertainment technologies." Founded in 2003 by engineer Cary Christie, Artison holds a number of patents related to advanced speaker technologies.

The Artison product offering features specialty loudspeakers with customisable grilles, including soundbars, subwoofers and surrounds. It also plans to release a "unique" compact multi-channel amplifier technology later this year.

ATI Buys Datasat

AV and home cinema amplification product maker Amplifier Technologies Inc (ATI) buys into cinema with Datasat Digital Entertainment, manufacturer of digital audio processors for the home and pro-cinema markets.

DatasatFinancial details of the sale are not available.

The deal gives ATI a stepping stone in the pro cinema world, since Datasat has over 20 years of experience in the market. The purchase also gives ATI a boost in the home market, thanks to Datasat's reputation in new 3D audio codecs.
