Hi-Res Audio Gets DEG, CEA Definition

HD Audio The Digital Entertainment Group (DEG), Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) and the Recording Academy announce a formal definition for High Resolution Audio.

The definition is as follows-- “lossless audio that is capable of reproducing the full range of sound from recordings that have been mastered from better than CD quality music sources.”

The organizations also provides four Master Quality Recording categories describing the recordings made from the best quality music sources currently available, which are as follows:

Extron Electronics introduces the Extron XTRA Series XPA 1002-70V and XPA 1002-100V, half rack 1U, convection cooled power amplifiers delivering two channels of 100 watts rms for 70 volt and 100 volt distributed speakers.

These professional grade amplifiers feature a 100 dB signal-to-noise ratio with 0.1% THD+N specifications. The XPA 1002-70V and XPA 1002-100V are ENERGY STAR qualified amplifiers with an Extron exclusive, highly efficient, advanced Class D amplifier design.

They also feature patented CDRS - Class D Ripple Suppression technology that provides a smooth, clean audio waveform and an improvement in signal fidelity over conventional Class D amplifiers. The XPA 1002-70V and XPA 1002-100V are housed in half rack width metal enclosures, conserving rack space and weighing only 2.5 lbs (1.1 kg). The Extron-exclusive, high efficiency design generates very little heat and allows the amplifiers to be convection cooled.

TEAC Intros Headphone Amp With USB DAC

The HA-P50 is the first portable headphone amplifier from TEAC with a built-in 24bit/96kHz USB DAC, providing high-resolution audio from devices such as iPhones, Android smartphones and PCs.

TEAC HA-P50It receives digital audio via USB (up to 16bit/44.1kHz) and the built-in BurrBrown PCM5102 DAC processes it to a maximum of 24bit/96kHz  with minimal sound degradation and maximum fidelity, at least according to the company.

A high/low gain selectors matches output gain with headphone impedance, allowing the 2 x 160mW power amp to drive 600ohm headphones at full power, while a combined digital input and analog audio in terminal self-detects incoming signals.

The Denon Take on Wireless Audio

Denon launches HEOS-- a wireless multi-room audio portfolio claiming to bring Denon-quality audio to any (or all) rooms via the combination of wireless speakers and mobile device app.

Denon HEOSThe HEOS portfolio currently consists of three speakers-- the HEOS3, HEOS5 and HEOS7-- and the HEOS Extend wireless network extender.

In coming months the lineup will also get preamp and amp expansion products allowing the addition of legacy products to HEOS networks. All connect to networks via dual-band 802.11n wifi, with iOS/Android app provides control, and a USB port allows the playback of music from external HDDs and thumb drives.

Crestron Ships Home Audio Streamer

Crestron announces the Network Stream Player (CEN-NSP-1)-- a device providing both wired and wireless option for streaming music from iDevices to a Crestron audio distribution system.

Crestron Network Stream PlayerIn other words, it's a fancy version of an Airport Express-- integrating Apple Airplay (audio-only) into a Crestron control system.

It handles audio from any app, and when integrated with multi-zone whole house audio systems such as Sonnex the iDevice user can direct said music to any room or every room in the house.

Connections come via either AirPlay or USB 2.0 using any Apple dock or cable. According to the company wired connectivity opens a variety of options using Crestron control and Apple services, including include and iTunes Match integration.
