Naim Intros Muso Wireless Audio

British audio maker Naim launches its first wireless product-- the Muso, a speaker/soundbar system complete with AirPlay, aptX Bluetooth and UPnP (Universal Plug 'n' Play) connectivity.

Naim MusoFeaturing an industrial design similar to the company's high-end Statement amplifier, the Muso carries six 75W digital amps driving 6 custom-designed speakers, with two midrange drivers (in an own enclosure), two tweeters and two "racetrack" bass drivers. An embedded dual-band wifi antenna handles wireless connectivity.

The internal speaker cabinet is in wood, with an aluminium skin for extra dampening for distortion-free sound. Taking care of thermal performance is a solid extruded aluminium heat sink, ad the speaker grille is replaceable with 3 optional colour versions.

Samsung Levels Premium Audio

Samsung takes on premium audio with Level, an audio accessory series in both wired and wireless versions promising "organic sound quality, superior comfort, portability and style."

On HeadphonesDesigned for use with mobile devices, the Level series features 4 options-- the Over, On and In headphones, and the Box speaker.

The Over are the flagship headphones, being over-ear models with an ergonomic design, touch controls, active noise cancellation and wireless connectivity. Inside are a 50mm neodymium driver and a "bio cellulose" free edge structure preventing resonance between vibration plate and frame.

The headphones also pair with an Android device app to provide customisable equalizer settings, 25 EQ presets, text-to-speech capabilities and a "smart" volume monitor.

Audica Professional: Premium Ceiling Loudspeakers

Audica Professional launches its Median IC 125 and IC 165, 2-way, full-range premium ceiling loudspeakers.

AudicaThe open back design saves depth and weight for installations where a sealed enclosure (back-can) is not required. The 5” IC 125 and 6.5” IC165 have a sensitivity of 87dB/W/m, 40W power handling and their dispersion is 120 degrees -6dB at 6kHz.

The IC 125 has a frequency response of 75Hz to 20kHz +/-3dB, with the larger IC 165 offering greater LF extension to 70Hz

Both models feature a swivel HF unit, to direct the sound to the required listening area, and incorporate a +3dB/flat/-3dB HF control to shape the frequency response for the application or room acoustics.

Kickstarting the Music-Streaming Router

Crowd-sourced wifi network operator Fon what it describes as an the modern jukebox-- the Gramofon, a device bringing together wifi connectivity, smartphones and online music streaming services.

GramofonEssentially the Gramofon is a small router with built-in online music service support. It connects to audio systems via 3.5mm jack (it carries no speaker) and to home networks via either wifi or ethernet, and uses wifi to pair with mobile devices.

Once initial setup is complete, users log into the Gramofon's own wifi network (not Bluetooth) via Facebook account to act as streaming service playlist DJ. In addition connected devices get regular internet access.

NAD Adds Bluetooth to VISO 1

The NAD VISO 1 wireless music system gets an update in the shape of Bluetooth aptX connectivity-- thus bringing about the NAD VISO 1 BT, an audio system promising "true" hifi performance and "incredible" sound quality.

VISO 1It carries proprietary Direct Digital amplifier technology (the same inside the M2 amplifier) to provide what NAD describes as analogue-free signal processing with less distortion and enhanced digital dynamics.

Meanwhile Bluetooth aptX requires minimal setup and no wifi connections for streaming from any enabled devices.

KEF upgrades its impressive 2m tall flagship loudspeaker, the Muon, promising to take "form and function to far greater performance-levels than thought possible at the time of its introduction."

KEF MuonThe upgrade features the latest version of the Uni-Q "point source" driver array, a combination of 5-inch MF lithium/magnesium aluminium hybrid cone and 1-inch HF aluminium dome featuring the company's "Tangerine Waveguide."

The new version uses rear air-venting to direct sound down an absorbent venting tube as it radiates from the rear of the dome. According to KEF this reduces distortion and pressures waves building behind the done for "incredibly smooth" treble.
