Android Gets Pro Crestron Apps

Crestron AndroidCrestron launches the Mobile Pro control App for Android-- turning any Android device into a Crestron touch screen controlling any connected system from virtually anywhere.

Using any available internet connection, the Mobile Pro app displays real-time room temperatures, shade positions, lighting levels and music metadata, as well as streaming video from web-based security cameras.

The app is also cross-platform, meaning customers can control their home systems using either PC, iOS or Android apps.

Lenovo Upates PC Keyboard Remote

Lenovo N5901Lenovo updates the N5901 Multimedia Remote with Keyboard with the N5902, replacing the glossy black finish with a matte fingerprint-proof exterior and adding backlighting to the keys.

The company also includes an optical pointer and a "ridged" scroll bar.

It operates at 2.4GHz frequency, and has an operating range of up to 30 feet according to Lenovo.

Ideal for customers using home theatre PCs, installation requires plugging a USB nano dongle (included) and is compatible with Windows 2000, XP, Vista and Windows 7.

When Gigabytes are Not Enough

Toshiba reveals the latest Regza home server at CEATEC 2011-- the DBR-M190, with a hefty 5TB of storage, enough to store 15 days of MPEG4AVC digital video content.

Regza DBR-M190It carries eight tuners, six of which (and 4TB of storage) handling what Toshiba calls "Time Shift" recording-- real-time simultaneous recording from up to x6 digital TV stations.

The remaining 1TB of storage handles normal recording from up to x2 stations.

It can also connect to DLNA-compatible devices (such as Toshiba's AT700 Regza tablet) to either stream live TV or allow access to previously recorded content over wifi.

The package also includes Blu-ray playback.

The DBR-M190 will be available on the Japanese market from November, with no mention of an international release-- especially since Time Shift recording is currently only compatible with Japanese cable TV.

Logitech Uses Smartphones, Tablets as Universal Remotes

Logitech enters the smartphone/tablet as universal remote arena with the Logitech Harmony Link-- a wifi-enabed IR device and app combination working with both Android and iOS devices.

Logitech HarmonyOne connects the hockey puck-sized Harmony Link to the TV before installing the app on their devices-- without the need for attaching any dongles to smartphones or tablets.

Users can use iPads with the app as a full entertainment control system (complete with personalised program guides) while smartphones get universal remote functionality.

Receiving wifi signals and turning them into IR commands the Harmony Link controls up to x8 devices, using technology from the Harmony universal remote series.

Logitech also includes an IR mini-blaster accessory, allowing control of entertainment devices inside a closed cabinet.

Music Port Elite and Control4 Get Extra Vegetables

UK-based development team Extra Vegetables releases a driver providing connectivity between the NuVo Music Port Elite and Control4 automation systems.

Extra VegetablesThis way users can now control Music Port Elite (MPS4-E) content and navigation through Control4 devices (Control4 OSD, remote and all touch panels) and iDevice apps.

The integration will also allow dealers to offer NuVo multi-amplifiers, tuners and keypads in their Control4 installations.

Using IP control the driver requires no additional cables to run, and it works with all number of audio outputs.

The driver is already available to download from the Extra Vegetables website.

A Remote for All Seasons

URC MXW-920URC demonstrates the MXW-920 at CEDIA 2011-- its first water-resistant remote.

It is a 1-way RF controller with a monochrome LCD display, with a design similar to the URC MX-900 and a IP-class 54 water resistance rating, withstanding "dust deposits" and "splashed water".

The URC MXW-920 is programmable in exactly the same way as the MX-900 or KP-900-- using the same 418MHz URC hubs.

At CEDIA 2011 URC will also introduce 3 new 1-way remotes, together with new Total Control products.

Feel like rewatching a favourite scene from, say, Raiders of the Lost Ark, but can't watch the entire film? Kaleidescape might just have the solution with the Kaleidescape Scenes.

Kaleidescape ScenesAvailable as an automatic update for every Kaleidescape system, Scenes consists of more than 4000 classic moments from 700 films-- entertainment "snacks," as the company calls them.

It appears to be not only a new way for users to experience their favourites, but also a simple and well organised means to create a demo to impress potential clients.

Kaleidescape Scenes are already available in KEAOS 4.2, and are part of the Kaleidescape Movie Guide.
