At ISE, Panasonic showed for the first time in Europe, the prototype of the world’s largest Flat Panel Display, 150-inch advanced high definition (HD) PDP.
Maybe even larger than the world’s largest flat panel display was the promise, the commitment Panasonic showed to plan for a new generation, Neo PDP.

Panasonic had shown for the first time the 103” Full High Definition Plasma at the CES in Las Vegas in January 2006. This product became commercial in October 2006, one year and three months ago. Despite many prototypes from different brands being show-cased, the Panasonic 103” is still the largest flat panel display commercially available on the market.

Panasonic now leads the professional large display market with the 150-inch PDP, which an 8.84 million pixel resolution (4096 x 2160) - more than 4X the 1080p FHD specification (1920 x 1080).

The prototype is as large as nine 50-inch Plasma displays with an effective viewing area of 3.31 m (W) x 1.87 m (H).

The prototype gave Panasonic spokesmen an opportunity to talk to the press about their new next-gen PDP factories and their plans for a new generation. “After all, Plasma is still a young technology,” explained one executive.

“Neo PDP” will be a new generation of Plasma that combines advances in cell structure, process technology, and new drive technology.  The impact is that NEO PDP will save power, double the luminance efficiency, allow for larger sizes and thinner models.

Chief Manufacturing will introduce the industry’s first WPA Short Throw Projector Mount at ISE 2008.

“At ISE, our new WPA Short Throw Projector Mount will be integrated with a Sanyo XL50 ultra-short throw projector.  These projectors are becoming increasingly popular with integrators needing to work within a diverse number of positions and surfaces and we’re delighted to be able to supply the first mounting solution available in the industry…” says Melinda von Horvath, Director of Sales & Marketing, EMEA at Chief Manufacturing.

The WPA enables users to extend a projector at up to 12.5” (318 mm) from a wall surface (alternatively the projector can be positioned close to the wall using the home position).  The mount includes integrated roll adjustments and easy extension.  Set-up uses the Quick Projector connect-and-disconnect capability (eliminating tools).  Security hardware is included with the WPA.

In meeting installers needs for flexible mounting solutions, Chief offers additional accessories for short throw projectors. The CMS390™ and CMS391™ On-Center Ceiling Plates allow installers to adjust the projector installation up to 24”, which is ideal for the installation of short throw projectors.

Chief’s WPA Short Throw Projector Mount is compatible with all major short throw projectors models on the market and custom interfaces for Sanyo, Hitachi and Toshiba are currently available and shipping.  The WPA is also compatible with Chief’s range of RPA and RPM projector mounts.

Dell’s Alienware’s curved-screen display at CES got a lot of attention.

Now, at Macworld in USA, NEC showed a prototype of a 42-inch, 2880x900-pixel, curved-screen display.

The CRVD-LMD monitor is for professional application where users want an immersive display but don't want their view interrupted by the frames of multiple monitors.

Weighing 11.36 kilos, the curved screen uses a DLP rear-projection system. On the prototype, a dual-link DVI port connects to a computer via a single graphics card, but the final version might use HDMI. In USA, NEC is saying the curved screen should ship by Q4 2008.

Seen the movie Transformers? BTC launched its 15-inch dual monitor 150DS in Korea which could be called the transformer of the monitor world. Flip me, spin me, any way you want meas long as you watch meIm alright, to paraphrase a song.

Complete with a transform stand, the monitors feature 450:1 contrast, 16ms response, 250 cd/m brightness, 100/130 viewing angle, 2W x 2W built-in stereo speakers, two USB 2.0 ports and DVI input. Offer PIP function (Picuture-in-Picture), too.
