Sony 4K HDR Projector Trio at CEDIA

Sony announces not one, not two but three 4K HDR home cinema projectors at CEDIA Expo 2018-- the VPL-VW995ES laser projector, the mid-tier VW665ES and entry-level VW295ES, all featuring IMAX Enhanced certification.

Sony projector CEDIAAs the premium model, the VPL-VW99ES carries an All Range Crisp Focus (ARC-F) lens, an 18-piece glass lens found in the first Sony 4K home projector, the VPL-VW1000ES, and the flagship VPL-VW5000ES. According to the company the ARC-F lens provides the best focus and resolution across the entire screen via Digital Focus Optimiser function. Peak brightness reaches 2200 lumens.

Hisense Expands 4K Laser TV Lineup

Hisense announces the addition of two series to the 4K UHD Smart Laser TV line at CEDIA Expo 2018-- the L10E line with 100-inch (100L10E) and 120-inch (120L10E) models and the L8E all-in-one 88-inch laser TV (88L8E).

hisense CEDIAAll the laser TV models use blue and red laser diodes, together with a Texas Instruments DLP 4K UHD display chip with XPR technology. Another addition is a built-in TV tuner for over-the-air channel access, and a Smart TV engine for streaming services such as Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, TikiLive and Pandora, among others.

JVC Shows Off 8K E-Shift 4K Projector at IFA 2018

JVC has 4K projector range on show at IFA 2018-- including the DLA-NX9, an 8K e-shift home theatre model the company claims is the first able to project an 8K image.

JVC IFA 2018The DLA-NX9 combines 8K e-shift pixel shifting with a 100mm diameter 18-element, 16-group all-glass lens to ensure high resolution into the extreme corner of the screen. Five low dispersion lenses suppress chromatic aberration and bleeding, while a variety of techniques reduce light scattering and light diffraction, improving brightness and black levels.

Also included is Auto Tone Mapping, a means to maximise HDR10 content by automatically adjusting settings based on HDR10 mastering information MaxCLL (Maximum content Light Level) and MaxFALL (Maximum Frame Average Light Level).

The Da-Lite ambient light rejecting (ALR) screen line gets an addition-- Parallax 2.3, a screen the company says has a very gradual brightness drop-off, ensuring image quality is maintained even when viewed from the side.

Parallax 2.3Designed for both pro AV and home theatre applications, the Parallax 2.3 consists of multiple micro-layers to achieve 96% ambient light blocking properties, together with a viewing cone of 46-degrees. The result is a bright, colourful image without glare, regardless of how much light is in the room.
